Instructions for your First Appointment

Minimize stress for your cat during the groom:

1. Close the doors to any rooms with hard-to-reach hiding places such as under beds, behind washers and dryers, or full closets.

2. Do not put the cat in its carrier.

3. Working in the open for shaving and nail trims works best unless your cat is skittish of strangers. If your cat is skittish, when I text to let you know I am on my way, gather your cat and stay with them in the bathroom. You can let me know if this is the plan, where the bathroom is located, and which door you will leave unlocked for my entry.

For cats getting a bath, small bathrooms work best. I just need a tub or shower to set up my bathing system in. I bring drain covers to prevent hair going down your drain. And I bring a shop vac to clean up all the hair after the drying process. If you only have large bathrooms, I may use a utility room instead.

4. For all new clients, I request that you be present for the beginning of the first groom. Calm words of comfort from the owner often ease the cat’s stress. You do not need to stay for the entire groom.

5. It may be necessary to play with the cat or offer treats as a distraction during certain portions of the groom, so have their favorite treats and toys nearby.

6. Treats work best if the cat is hungry, so adjust the cat’s feeding schedule if possible.

7. Have your cat’s regular grooming tools nearby. One of the benefits of your first visit is a brief education on your cat’s coat and the best tools and techniques for maintaining it.

8. Payments. I accept cash, check or credit card (I bring a Square card reader with me.)

9. Mask and gloves. I have been wearing these to protect my lungs and hands from hair/hair splinters since long before Covid. Do not be surprised and I do not expect you to wear a mask.

Looking forward to meeting you!
